One Last Walk

From my window...

I watch the smoke unfurl
and remember the time as a little girl ~
When running swiftly by your side
we gathered wood at even tide.

I rememeber the way
you would smile at me.
As you knelt beside me ~
on bended knee.

I remember the twinkle
in your eye.
As you said,
"I'll race you back inside."

From my window...
I can see you now.
though the hair is gray
Upon your brow.
your eyes ~ your smile;
Remain the same
and I think I hear you call my name.

I know the firelights growing dim
it's ashes cold and gray.
It's my turn now to take your hand
One last walk ~ you softly say.
